What is Forrest Gump all about?

Forrest Gump is an American romantic comedy-drama film. The film is directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by Eric Roth, and is based on the 1986 novel by Winston Groom, which has the same name. The film stars Robin Wright, Mykelti Williamson, Tom Hanks, Gary Sinise, Sally Field. The story shows many decades in the life of Forrest Gump. He is a slow-witted but kind-hearted man from Alabama. He never thought of himself as a disadvantage because of his supportive mother. He leads anything but a restricted life. Whether dominating the gridiron as a college football star, fighting in Vietnam, or captaining a shrimp boat. He cares about the most is his childhood love and she is the most difficult to save.

The film was released in the United States on July 6, 1994. The film was liked for direction, performances, visual effects, music, and screenplay. At the box office, the film was a huge success, and it became the top-grossing American film of the year. It earned US$677 million worldwide. The film won many Academy Awards like Best Director, Best Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published, Best Film Editing, Best Picture, Best Actor for Hanks, Best Visual Effects.

Principal photography happened between August and December 1993, mainly in South and North Carolina and Georgia. To make Hanks into archived footage and to develop other scenes, extensive visual effects were used. The film is based on a novel, and before skipping ahead to the end of the novel, the film focuses only on 1st eleven chapters of the novel.  Many aspects of Forrest’s life in the film was not there in the novel, and his core character and personality are also changed from the novel. In the soundtrack, songs are there, which reflects the different periods seen in the film. The soundtrack was released on July 6, 1994, and has 32 songs. 

In March 2019, it was announced that there would be an Indian remake of the film by Aamir Khan named Laal Singh Chaddha, which would release by the end of 2021.
